Bourbon is made from 51% corn mash with wheat and rye often used as additional ingredients, which are fermented and distilled to a high 80% alcohol content. This mixture is then placed in charred oak barrels which release sugars over time. These caramelized sugars blend with the alcohol to give a beautiful amber colour. Bourbon whiskey is aged for four years and then bottled. There are two main types of Bourbon whiskey, straight and blended. Bourbon can be served in many forms based on your personal preference. It can be consumed neat, with ice or diluted with water. The famous cocktail Manhattan is made from Bourbon whiskey. It can also be used in various food preparations, marinades and desserts.
