Producer's description
The Fattoria del Cerro estate was acquired by Saiagricola SpA in 1978. It is the largest in the Montepulciano region. The total area of the farm is 600 hectares, of which the vineyards account for 181 hectares, including 93 hectares used for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Fattoria del Cerro vineyards are located in the south of Montepulciano at an altitude of 350-400 meters above sea level, the microclimate of this region is stable, which contributes to good ripening of the grapes.
The spaciousness and different exposition of the vineyards allows you to choose the best berries for the production of high-quality wines. Pruniolo Gentile (the variety used to make Nobile di Montepulciano wine) is the local incarnation of the well-known Sangiovese, which has adapted to the local conditions over the centuries. Wine Nobile is produced in three different versions (the usual Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva DOCG and Nobile di Montepulciano "Antica Chiusina" DOCG). Long-term maceration is required for the wine to acquire a structure. On the farm, winemakers practice postmaceration - aging on the pulp for about 10-12 days after the main fermentation. The course of malolactic fermentation is completely controlled here. For Riserva wines, the maceration lasts about 25 days.
According to experts, Fattoria del Cerro is one of the most promising farms in the Montepulciano region, and every wine produced by the farm is top-ranked in its class.
