Producer's description
The history of Conte Tasca d'Almerita begins in 1830, when the brothers Don Lucio and Don Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca acquired the former fortress of Regaleali, which lies on the border between the provinces of Palermo and Caltanisetta, in the heart of Sicily. The name Regaleali comes from the Arabic "Rahal Ali" - Ali's farm.
Much has changed since then, but the love for the area, the respect for tradition, the cultivation of wonderful grapes and the production of high-quality wines remain unchanged. The Tasca d'Almerita company has existed for more than 150 years, today it is known throughout the world for its wines, which regularly receive awards at various competitions. The farm's land totals 500 hectares, 360 of which are devoted to vineyards. They are located at an altitude of 400 to 750 meters above sea level.
The local climate has unique characteristics, which allows for a later harvest, which gives the wines a unique flavor. 3 million bottles are produced per year. The motto of the farm is: “Tradition and innovation.” The owners of Tasca d'Almerita care about tradition and keep up with the times. They use the latest equipment in production, thus solving the issues of tomorrow today.
At the Tasca d'Almerita estate, zonal research and clone selection work are constantly underway. In accordance with their results, new vines are planted every year. In addition, the estate has experimental vineyards, where grape varieties from all over the world are compared (Italian, Greek, Spanish, French, etc.), and new rootstocks and new clones of autochthonous and international varieties are tested. Thanks to four artificial lakes, the vineyards are never affected by the hot and dry sirocco wind that sometimes rages during the hot Sicilian summer. The quality of the wine that will be obtained at the winery is established in the vineyards, and technology can only emphasize what is given by nature.
