Tasting Notes


Wine of deep ruby color.


The taste of the wine is full, rich, intense, muscular, has excellent energy, a good tannin structure, richly enveloped in juicy fruit notes, and a long, precise, dry aftertaste.


The extravagant aroma of the wine consists of notes of blackberry, plum, incense, rose petals, shades of exotic tea, sandalwood and wood smoke.


The wine goes well with red meat and game dishes, pasta and mature cheeses.

Interesting Facts

Domaine Georges Noellat, Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru, 2017 is the triumph of the extravagantly talented young winemaker Maxim Sherlyan, a weighty and serious wine with generous fruitiness and exciting energy. The wine is made from Pinot Noir grapes harvested from a tiny plot of very old vines of 0.4 hectares. The crop is harvested by hand, completely peeled from the ridges and cold macerated for several days before the start of fermentation. Only natural yeast cultures are used for fermentation. Believing that the intensity of the terroir could be compared to that of new oak, winemaker and domain owner Maxim Sherlyan used 100% new oak barrels to mature the vintage. Wine is not cleaned or filtered before bottling. The peak of maturity of the 2017 vintage will be in 2022-2040.

Domaine Georges Noellat was founded by Georges Noell, nephew of Charles Noell, who was once the owner of one of the greatest Domains in Vaughn Roman and made important contributions to the Domains of Jean-Jacques Confuron and Hudelot-Noell, as well as the Domaine Leroy. In 1990, Domaine Georges Noëllat agreed to sell its products for 20 years to such eminent winemakers as Jadot and Drouin. In 2010, the Georges Noella Domain was headed by 20-year-old Maxim Sherlyan, who took over the management of the estate from his grandmother. Maxine grew up in Champagne, but it seems that Burgundy wine really is in his blood, as he is the nephew of the Jayet family and a cousin of the sons of Emmanuel Rouge. He complemented his "pedigree" with training in winemaking at the Lycée du Viticole in Beaune and practice at Domaine Emmanuel Rouget and Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur in 2009.

Today the small but mighty Domaine Georges Noelle owns 5.5 hectares of vineyards, including some of the deepest terroirs of Von Romanet and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Maximus inherited most of the old vines, which he intends to preserve, paying special attention to them. When it comes to winemaking, even at such an early stage in his winemaking career, Maxim has already earned a reputation for his elegant style.
Wine critic Alain Meadows of Burghound noted that Maxim Sherlyan's wines are “impressively crafted wines that emphasize fruit purity and sophistication, they really could be called delicate. A little more body and weight could be desired, but this is more of a stylistic comment. because the wines are beautifully balanced and speak clearly of the underlying terroirs . " And Neil Martin of Wine Advocate calls Maxim "an aspiring young winemaker whose principles have been instilled from an early age, but wow - what a potential!"
