The first mention of the manor Terriccio belongs to the Middle Ages. The estate is situated on a very unusual place, where long ago settled Etruscan mines, mining copper and iron here. Many centuries ago, this area was famous for a large number of wolves living in the vicinity. Some of wolf dens, called "lupo", located directly on the estate. Kill the wolf was only possible in the first few minutes after he came out of the den, drove him into a trap. This is the place near wolf dens and was called "lupikaya."
In 1921, Castello del Terriccio became the property of the family Rossi, which at that time were grown various crops, including olives and grapes. The current owner, Dr. Jean Anibal Rossi di Medelana decided to concentrate solely on wine. Carlo Ferrini, consultant Castello del Terriccio, based on their talent and rich traditions of the winery, has created two delicious wines, famous throughout the world - "Lupicaia" and "Tassinaia", they are the hallmark of Castello del Terriccio.
