Limoncello di Sorrento - this famous Italian liqueur that is created out of lemons from Sorrento peninsula. For its production lemon peel soaked in alcohol for 90 days followed by infusion of sugar and water is added.
In the late 19th century, when visitors came to Villa Massa, they were offered liqueur made from lemons grown in the gardens of the family Massa. Villa Massa company was founded by brothers Sergio and Stefano Massa in 1991 with the intention of making this delicious drink is available to everyone. Thus was born the traditional liquor "Villa Massa Limoncello", which quickly became known throughout the world. Liquor made from an ancient recipe, which was created in 1890, but with modern technology. Today, Villa Massa is the leading company among manufacturers of Limoncello liqueur.
There is a story, according to which the idea of releasing Limoncello liqueur came up with Sergio Massa after talking with local farmers, who complained that they could not sell all the lemons. What was obvious, because thanks to the excellent climate of the Sorrento Peninsula these famous lemons grow all year round, and farmers produced more fruit than they could sell. Sergio realized that he could offer to local producers to use their products for the manufacture of liquor Limoncello, a family recipe that was created in 1890. Sergio approached with a business proposal to his brother Stefano, so in 1991 he founded the family company Villa Massa, which started production of the magnificent liqueur Limoncello.
