Wine Johann Donabaum, Gruner Vertliner Wachauer Smaragd "Limited Edition"
- Grape varieties:
The wine is bright, shiny yellow-green color.
Incredibly thin acidity and tangible touches of tannins create a pleasant depth and complexity in the taste of wine. Delicate, transparent notes of flowers are amplified in the bouquet with shades of minerals, nuts and caramelized fruits, which remain in a long, tense aftertaste.
The nuances of meadow grasses, tobacco and orange peel create a rich palette in the aroma of wine, supporting the tones of yellow apple, tropical fruits and minerals. To them at a more mature age are hints of dried mushrooms and smoke.
The wine is served to dishes of Mediterranean cuisine, fish, seafood, goat cheese.
Johann Donabaum, Gruner Vertliner Wachauer Smaragd "Limited Edition" is an elegant, well-structured wine that has a good potential for aging, which is more than 10 years. The name of the category Smaragd ("emerald") is due to the fact that in vineyards there are often small lizards of bright green (emerald) color that go out to bask in the sun. The most mature grapes of Grüner Veltliner, which was harvested from vineyards in the Wachau Valley, are used to make the wine. For fermentation, only high-quality, concentrated grape material with a small content of berries, afflicted with a noble botrytis fungus, is allowed. The wine is produced only in exceptional years and in limited quantities.
In 2011, the wine became the owner of silver medals "Decanter World Wine Awards" and "International Wine Challenge", and in 2013 enriched its collection with the "Decanter World Wine Awards".
28-year-old Johan Donabaum - rising star Wachau. Despite his youth, he has been a winemaker for several years in the family estate. Possessing an impressive baggage of knowledge and tremendous intuition, he is still far from fully realizing his professional potential. In his teens he graduated from the school of viticulture and practiced at the farm of FX Pichler . Returning to his homeland full of new ideas, he, with the support of his father, began to implement them.
The main concept of Johan Donabaum - "Wines should be mirrors reflecting their origin and unique characteristics of the terroir, as well as the character of the wine maker" . This position led to an enthusiastic response of wine critics who recognized the white wines of Johann Donabaum at many international competitions.
