Interesting Facts

Dry red wine Domaine Michel et Stephane Ogier, Cote-Rotie "La Vialliere" AOC is made from Syrah grapes grown in a separate vineyard "La Vialliere" in Cote Roti. The wine has an incredible balance, full body, harmonious and elegant taste. Harvested by hand from 20 year old vines. Vinification is carried out without the addition of artificial yeast, the wine is aged 20 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new.

Domain Michel et Stephane Ogier (M&S Ogier d'Ampuis), according to prominent wine critic Robert Parker, is one of the best domains in the Cote-Rotie appellation. The territory of the estate is about 8 hectares. Vineyards are located in six different Cote-Rotie sites - the world-famous But de Mont, Lancement, Cote-Rozier, Champon, Besset, Serine, 3 hectares of which are located in the best sites (60% on Cote Blonde, 40% on Cote Brune).

Initially, the family business was only involved in the cultivation and sale of grapes. And only in 1982 began the production of its own wines. The farm is managed by his father - Michel Ogier and his 30-year-old son Stefan - a graduate of the famous School of Enology in Bonn. Gradually, thanks to his brilliant knowledge and talent, Stefan became a recognized winemaker, and took over almost all the management of the farm. And in 2008, Wine Spectator magazine called him "one of the best young winemakers of the new generation of this dynamic appellation," and his wines - the base Cote-Rotie and two cuvée: " La Belle Helene " and " Lancement " were awarded the highest ratings.

The wine fields of the domain are currently reducing the use of chemicals and herbicides. Gradually, it is planned to completely abandon the treatment with chemicals. For example, today, the site on Cote-Rozier, from the crop of which the best cuvée of the domain is produced - "La Belle Helene", is cultivated without any herbicides. There is also ongoing monitoring of the yield of vines; if necessary, remove excess clusters (produce the so-called "green collection").
