Tasting Notes


Wine clean and bright ruby ​​color.


The taste of wine is very elegant and dense, perfectly balanced, fresh, with rich fruit tones, silky tannic structure, velvety texture, long finish.


The aroma of wine is filled with notes of candied red fruit, hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and roasted beans.


The wine goes well with specialties from the South-West of France, with all kinds of meat and game. Roundness and elegance allows the wine to accompany foie gras and fresh fish dishes.

Interesting Facts

Chateau de Haute-Serre - atypical for the region of Cahors wine with a very individual style. Fruity, with refined tannins and a long finish, this wine is one of the rare gems of Cahors and pleasure when tasting in the early years after the release, and after prolonged exposure. The grapes for wine making is grown on clay-limestone plateau. South-eastern and south-western exposure of vineyards gives the grapes exceptional maturation. The average age of the vines is 30 years. Harvested mechanically. After a long fermentation with strict temperature control wine is aged between 12 and 18 months in new oak barrels.

Producer's description

Founded in 1887, the company Georges Vigouroux throughout its existence contributes greatly to the promotion of wines of South West France. In the early 1970s, the third generation of the family Vigouroux looking for a place for a transplant with a grade of Malbec vineyard. After two years of searching, they found the Chateau de Haute-Serre - Castle with abandoned after the phylloxera epidemic at the end of the XIX century vineyards. Until 1880 it produced the Chateau one of the greatest wines of France, along with Chateau Margaux wines and Pommard. Georges Vigouroux decided to revive the estate and has not lost, because the soil vineyards, rich in clay and pebbles, was ideal for ripening grapes Malbec. It took 2 years in order to clean up the estate and plant 160,000 vines, as well as to restore the castle and the cellar. Aesthetics and technology have joined forces in perfect harmony to create a delicious wine. For many years of tireless work, self-taught winemaker Georges Vigouroux instilled a passion for winemaking to his son Bertrand-Gabriel, who joined his father in 1989.
Today Bertrand Gabriel is doing everything possible to improve production - high density planting of vines (6060 vines / ha), the use of natural methods of care and aging in new oak barrels. In addition to the Chateau de Haute-Serre, Georges Vigouroux company also owns Chateau de Mercues, Chateau Leret Monpezat and Chateau Tournelles.
