Interesting Facts
Vintage Armagnacs from Chateau Laballe capture the great spirit of France. For almost 2 centuries, the traditions of making this noble drink have been developing in order to extract and preserve the unique characteristics of the terroir. Carefully grown vines give a unique subtle yet full flavor to the wines produced, thanks to the exceptional characteristics of the soils rich in iron oxide.
Armagnac is distilled by classic continuous distillation in a copper still to maximize flavor retention. The spirits are aged in barrels made in the same region at the last cooper factory, Bartholomo. Armagnacs are aerated 2-3 times a year, but do not leave the calm atmosphere of the 18th century cellar. As soon as Armagnac is bottled, its evolution stops, so in the future it can be stored without fear of changing the taste. Rigorous design rules ensure the richness, complexity and high quality of the Armagnacs Chateau Laballe, Vintage, Bas Armagnac AOC, 1981 .
Producer's description
The history of the Laballe family winery began in 1820, when Jean Dominique Laudet, after returning from the West Indies after 20 years of trading in spices, decided to finally fulfill his dream of life and devote the rest of his life to the production of the noble French drink Armagnac. It was then that he acquired the Chateau de Laballe in the heart of Bas Armagnac Landais in the Grand Bas Armagnac region. The estate then included 600 hectares of forest and agricultural land, and employed 120 people. Big business did not frighten Jean Dominique, who wanted to produce Armagnac. The wine business has been passed down from generation to generation, and today Cyril and Julie Laballe are at the helm.
The vineyards of the farm are located on rare soils called "Sables Fauves", which gives freshness and minerality to wines and Armagnacs. The Laballe family strives to show through their drinks the uniqueness of the terroir, from the processing of the vines to the process of winemaking and aging.
