Mark Bilton inherited a farm in Stellenbosch in 1996 from his father - Don Bilton, who owned it since 1959. More than 30 years on a farm to grow vegetables, fruit and grapes. Mark decided to abandon the production of crops in favor of vines. This historic site of the region, covering a total of 377 hectares in the fertile slopes of the majestic mountain Helbderberg from 1726 is famous for its wine-making history. Mark immediately invited as a consultant Adrian Naudet, who, after a deep analysis of the terroir and microclimate for growing those picked grapes for which existing conditions are most favorable: white varieties include Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Viognier and Chardonnay; red - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinotage, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir and Mourvedre. The results were not long in coming, already in 1998 was marked by a magnificent harvest Merlot. The grapes were of very good quality. Due to the absence at the time winery - the father of Mark Bilton grapes are grown only for sale - grapes moved into the cellar Franschhoek, where it was created from 100 boxes of the first wine under the brand name "Bilton".
High scores of experts and the extraordinary demand for this wine inspired Mark Bilton to build a broad range monosortovyh wines - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Shiraz and others who relay race adopted excellent quality and still delight connoisseurs of high-quality wines.
