Wine Bierzo DO "Las Lamas", 2006

"Las Lamas" literally translates as "mud, mud." The wine gets its name from the clay terroir, which now grows grapes. Previously, there was a road in the mud which often linked the hooves of horses pilgrims, and here begins the story is tender, with light notes of blackberry wine. It has a kind of vibrating acidity, soft tannins and has the potential exposure of 5-12 years. Today the grapes from which the Las Lamas, grows in three small areas of the hill area of ​​approximately 1 hectare. On one of them reaches the vine age 100 years, two others - from 60 to 90 years.

Alvaro Palacios did not immediately become a winemaker, but quickly realized the position and prospects of shale terraces with old and abandoned vineyards near the town of GALLARDO, on the border with Galicia, the first time he saw them even when traveling around the Spanish village for sale French barriques at the end of the 1980s . After the resounding success of the Priory, Palacios, along with his nephew Ricardo Pérez studying in Bordeaux, come to grips with a new project (called "Heirs of Jose Palacios" - in honor of his father and grandfather Alvaro Ricardo), acquiring more than a hundred small sites (large vineyards in the small Bierzo almost no) with autochthonous varieties Mencia vines. Alvaro Palacios practicing biodynamic winemaking, trusts shutter its concentrated wines only French barriques and bottles without filtering. The first vintages 1999, 2000 and especially 2001. showed that Mencia, possibly better than the others reflects the terroir of Spain and has a great future. Proof of this are now high marks from respected wine critics such as Robert Parker and Stephen Tenzer.

All the wines of Descendientes de Jose Palacios (which translates as "Heirs Jose Palacios") are produced using biodynamic methods, aged in oak casks and not filtered, which means that you can be assured of their highest quality and environmental friendliness.
