Tasting Notes
The wine is light golden color.
On the palate the wine reveals tones of honey and almonds. Excerpt on the noble lees gave the wines complexity and freshness. According to their strength and power, this wine reminds Corton-Charlemagne, and the elegance can be compared with the great Montrachet.
The wine shows a generous palette of flavors with hints of citrus and a hint of smoky light vanilla tone.
The wine goes well with fish sauce and white meat.
Interesting Facts
Clos de Mouche is located on a hill between Beaune and Pommard. The local soil: clay, limestone and marl. Stocking density - 12,500 vines / ha. Yields - 30-35 hl / ha. There are old vines planted by Maurice Drouhin still in the early twentieth century. The average age of the vines 45 years. Grape harvest is carried out manually. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, followed by aging in oak barrels for 12 months, during which the malolactic fermentation. In 2008, it started later than usual.
White Clos de Mouche appeared by accident. Here, traditionally grown Pinot Noir, and the assemblage it is always added a little chardonnay (just a few acres of grapes grown near the Pinot Noir). In 1925 chardonnay matured later than its neighbor red and white, it was decided to make the Clos de Mouche. It had to taste the family for a long time and produced in small quantities only for themselves. But, thanks to Monsieur Kornyushe, the manager of the famous restaurant Maxim's, spoke about this wine all over Paris, and now for him to hunt the entire wine world. White Clos de Mouche is almost exclusive possession of the family Drouhin. Vintage label name reflects the essence of the wine. The territory of modern vineyard in the Middle Ages the peasants kept their apiary and in those days the Burgundian vineyards received its current name from the people. For example, bees called "les mouches a miel", literally - "honey flies", hence the name of the wine.
