Producer's description
"Stay true and excellence will always be with you" - the immortal words of the founder George Ballantyne, which the company follows to this day. George started the business in 1827 when he was only nineteen and then shared his experience with his sons George II, Archibald and Daniel, and his grandson George III. Together they created a real empire and gained an unshakable reputation for their whiskey. In 1895, Ballantine & Son was awarded the Order of Queen Victoria, which finally confirmed the prestige of the company's reputation. The next master blender was another George, though not related by blood to the Ballantine family. He inherited this job after World War I and 13 years of alcohol prohibition. George Robertson created the world's first 17 year old scotch and the prestigious "Ballantine 30". During Prohibition, the company designed square whiskey bottles so that American sailors could stash one or two bottles in their briefcases. The unusual shape of the iconic bottle is still in use today, but you no longer have to hide it in your briefcase.
In 1959, Jack Goody continued the tradition with the introduction of the 12 Year Old Blend. He also prepared two future master blenders, making sure that Ballantine's quality would remain the same for years to come. Jack taught them the importance of finding the best Scotch and aging it in the finest American oak barrels. In 1994 Goody was replaced by Robert Hicks, a whiskey perfectionist. He worked with Jack for 24 years before taking on the role of master blender and was known to be one of the best sommeliers when it came to the smell of whiskey. The current master blender and second of Goody's prodigies, Sandy Hislop brings innovation to Ballantine's, such as the new whiskey flavors "Ballantine's" Brasil and "Hard Fired".
The influence of these five master blenders has made Ballantine's whiskey what it is today - Europe's No. 1 Scotch Whiskey, as well as No. 2 Scotch Whiskey worldwide (according to "IWSR, 2015") Now "Ballantine's" offers the most complete range of quality drinks available anywhere in the world. They always have excellent quality and extreme versatility.
