Interesting Facts
White wine Attems, Chardonnay is made from grapes grown in the vineyards on the south and south-west exposure, located in the area Giasbana in Collio and the plains of the river Isonzo (Mossa and Lucinico) at an altitude of 130 meters above sea level. Chardonnay vines were planted in 1973 in the Collio and Isonzo 2001. The soils in the Collio, composed mainly of marl and sandstone, created by raising the seabed 50 million years ago. Soca rich alluvial soils with pebbles, gravel and silt.
After a cold, snowy winter, spring 2013 also did not indulge heat. Rain and cool weather detained vegetative period and led to a decrease in the grape harvest. Progress in the growth stage of the vines began in mid-June. August began with a temperature difference: hot days interspersed with cool nights, it was important for the natural accumulation of aromatic compounds in berries, and it is fundamental for high quality white wines. Chardonnay harvest began to gather in mid-September. Fermentation occurred in the wine vats stainless steel at a temperature in the 15-18 ° C for 15-20 days. Endurance drink produced in steel vats (4 months) and new barriques (2 months), and one month in bottles.
The history of wine-making family Attems began several centuries ago, when in 1106 the Bishop of Salzburg granted land Corrado Attemsu. Family files, which are stored in the family residence in Lutsiniko show that even in those ancient times, the family began to take an interest in wine, and materials from 1764 include lists of wines made from varieties Refosco and Ribolla.
In 2000, the family Attems started cooperation with the Marchesi de Frescobaldi - one of the most influential Italian wine dynasties. Attems family and Frescobaldi, which bring together the love of winemaking and the centuries-old tradition, believe that the unique character of the wine and its quality is directly dependent not only on the terroir, but also on feelings that winemakers produce wine. At present, the real estate sector covers 79 hectares Attems terraced slopes west of Gorizia. The climate of this region is ideal for growing grapes. At the end of the XIX century, the region was one of the leaders in the field of wine on the introduction of new technologies and development.
