Interesting Facts
Grapes for wine Barolo "San Giovanni" going with the same name of the vineyard San Giovanni manually. The area of the vineyard is only 1.5 hectares. The exposition area - south-east, which allows to obtain a fresh, well-structured and elegant wine. Harvesting takes place in late September-early October. Wort maceration takes place at a controlled temperature in vertical fermentation. The aging of wine in small French oak barrels, 45% of which are new, lasts 24 months. In July, the wine is bottled and aged for another year before implementation. The volume of production of this wine is 6500 bottles per year.
Gianfranco Alessandria - this is a small family business. In 1986, Gianfranco, after the death of his father, inherited the 4 hectares of vineyards. Initially, the grape harvest was intended for sale in the market, and then began the modernization of plant, equipment and machinery necessary for the process of winemaking. Over the years, wine production expanded, to date, the plant produces about 45,000 bottles a year. The plant is located in a small commune of Monforte d'Alba. Today farm owns 5.5 hectares of vineyards and 1.5 hectares in the lease, which are cultivated varieties Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, located in the town of San Giovanni in the area of Monforte. When growing grapes Gianfranco force reduces yield vineyards - it contributes to a better maturation of the grapes, making the crop more healthy and resistant to disease, which is an important component for the production of high quality wines.
