Wine Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann "Clos Saint Urbain" made from Pinot Gris grown in the southernmost vineyard in Alsace - "Rango De Tann." Winery thrives on these lands from the XII century, thanks to the particular soils of volcanic origin and sedimentary sandstone. Dark brown-burgundy color of the soil contributes to its greater heat. The vines are planted on a steep hillside with southern exposure. "Ranga De Tann" - late-vineyard, but its exceptional exposure allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. Here is practiced manual harvesting. The wine is aged on the lees for 12 months. "Clos Saint Urbain" has an excellent storage potential.
Company Domaine Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959, when Leonardo Umbreht Zind and Genevieve married and joined the family property. Leonardo, whose family was engaged in viticulture in 1620, did a lot for the development of the wine sector, moving it to the top ten wineries in Alsace, and will forever remain a place of honor in the history of this domain.
Olivier Umbreht - Leonardo son, became the first Frenchman, who qualified as "Master of Wine". He is worthy of taking over the reins from his father. Today, Leonardo, Genevieve, Olivier and Margaret Umbreht jointly managed the estate with a total area of 40 hectares, spread out on the territory of 5 different villages.
Average yield vineyards in the Domain Zind-Umbreh - 35 hl / ha, which is two times less than traditional indicators of class vineyards Grand Cru. Leonard has always been a supporter of the low yields. His commitment to the best terroirs of Alsace led him to purchase unusual sites "Rangen" and "Clos Windsbuhl", from the acquisition of which other manufacturers refused because of inability to use mechanized equipment there. This problem Leonard quickly decided using earthworks horses. In this act and expressed Umbreht family management style - an unusual approach, precision, foresight, unconditional respect and love for the quality of their work.
