Wine Volpaia Vinsanto del Chianti Classico DOC 2003 made from grape varieties Malvasia and Trebbiano harvested from vineyards growing on sandy soils rich in limestone. On the wine label depicts a 15th-century church, built in the village Volpayya in 1443 by the architect Michelozzo di Bartolomeo, at the request of the family Kanyani. One member of this family was the Knights of Malta, a member of a religious order, demanding to build a church before joining the holy brotherhood. Church survives to this day, now it held gala dinners and other cultural events.
Volpaya Castle (Castello di Volpaia) was built in the eleventh century, far from strengthening in order to create on the border of Florence and Siena. At present, there remain only two of the six ancient towers and part of the original defensive walls surrounding the castle. And yet, the location of buildings in the village of Volpaia and their walls are perfectly preserved virtually intact. In addition, Volpaia - it is also the name of the famous family. Lorenzo and Benvenuto della Volpaia became famous during the Renaissance, when the inventors of different mechanisms, one of them was a friend of Leonardo da Vinci. Inventions two brothers are now known to science museums in Florence, Chicago and Greenwich. In addition to wine, the farm has been Volpayya still producing olive oil, honey and vinegar.
