Il Ghizzano - vivid, memorable wine with expressive aroma, notes of candied woven cherry, tobacco and liquorice, and dry, well-balanced taste. It is made from Sangiovese grapes with a small addition of Merlot. The berries are grown in the vineyards on the hills of Santa Maria and Il Monte, at an altitude of 150-200 meters above sea level. The soils are composed of sand and clay. After the harvest, which is done by hand, the grapes is fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and concrete tanks. The duration of fermentation is 12-14 days. Annual production of wine "Il Gitstsano" of 30,000-40,000 bottles.
Family-Veneroze Pechcholine Gitstsano settled in the village in the late XIV century. They grew grapes, olives and engaged in agriculture. Today the area of Tenuta di Ghizzano is 350 hectares, of which a large part is occupied by olive trees, relict forests and crops. Under vineyards devoted only 20 hectares. In the 80s of the last century in this area produced unremarkable table wines, which cost almost does not pay the costs. Many owners sold their estates, or cut down vineyards. It was in those years Pier Francesco decided to radically change the situation and produce high-quality wines.
Since 2003 Tenuta di Ghizzano practiced organic viticulture, and in 2006 - biodynamic. In 2008 the company received the certificate of "Suolo e Salute". To date, production facilities and popular success, its high quality is appreciated by well-known wine critics.
