"Balciana", 2009 - a dry white wine from the grapes of Verdicchio, which is grown in the vineyard in Contrada Balchiana in the Italian province of Marche. Wine produced every year, but only in the best harvest years. Low yield vines and different terms of collecting Verdicchio grapes are the main features of this wine. Harvest time varies depending on the year, but usually runs from the beginning to the middle of November. While collecting berries with extreme caution sorted by degree of maturity and transported to the winery in small boxes. The traditional method of vinification takes place exclusively in stainless steel tanks. After bottling the wine continues a long period to develop and improve in the bottle until the taste of incomparable elegance.
Sartarelli small farm in the municipality of Poggio San Marcello appeared in the mid 60-ies of XX century, but initially only sold grown grapes to other producers. In 1972, the company decided to change the course of activities and began to create a wine from its own grapes. Much to the surprise of many wine lovers, this small winery was able to produce a perfectly balanced wines amazing depth and complexity. This success came to the winery in 1999, when their wine "Balciana" harvest in 1997 took part in the international competition "International Wine Challenge" in London in 1999. The competition was attended by 8500 white wines from 34 countries. In the first phase were selected tasting 110 wines received gold medals - one of them was "Balciana". Medalists in the second round, which distributed "internal" trophies. Wine "Balchiana" was awarded two: "Italian White Wine Trophy" and the prestigious "White Wine Trophy". I wonder what is now known all over the world wine "Balchiana" is a true reflection of its terroir and has a unique recognizable style, initially produced by artisanal methods. To achieve the extraordinary flavor of wine used the decline in yields and very late harvest grapes.
The winery produces Sartarelli five wines, all of which are made from grapes of Verdicchio who brought us glory: "Balchiana", "Tralivio" (made in a similar, but more light style), "Classic" (flawless presentation of character varieties Verdicchio), white sweet "Passito" and sparkling Brut. To create them Sartarelli improving production methods, using crop with unique clones Verdicchio from its own vineyards. The vineyards are planted on the company's steep terraces at an altitude of 300 to 350 meters above sea level.
