Initially Benrinnes Distillery was located in the southeast a mile from the plant today. Built on Whitehouse Farm in 1826 by Peter McKenzie, the plant was completely destroyed after three years at the time of the flood. In 1835 Benrinnes Distillery built anew. Like other distilleries, Benrinnes draws its water from springs in the mountains and Rowantree Scurran Burns. After a devastating fire in the late XIX century, the plant was rebuilt on electricity consumption. In 1984, the plant was decommissioned. Despite the long history, there is only one official filling - in 1991. Today, single malt whiskey from Benrinnes - a rarity.
