In 1998, Alvarez family, owners of the most renowned wineries in Spain - Vega Sicilia, began to acquire new vineyards to create a "Ribera" new generation, which could become a full-fledged competitor Unico in the wine market. At the moment, it owns 25 hectares of vineyards in the town Paradilla de Duero (Penafiel), of which more than half planted variety Tempranillo. It is on this grape varieties based project Alion, the concept of which is the production of one category of wine reserva from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), aged about 15 months in new French barriques. Particular attention is paid to the cork. After the entire issue Valbuena was rejected in 1994 because of the "cortical" Diseases Vega Sicilia do so, first check each plug from the party, and, if one does not pass the test, the entire lot is rejected.
In general, the style of wine Alion different vivacity, it is powerful and rich, but also important: this undeniably outstanding wine requires a minimum of 8-10 years of aging in the bottle, in order to better play to their quality. Wine Alion 2003 has the potential exposure to 2025.
