Arneis is one of the oldest white grape in the Piedmont region and winemakers for centuries revered him for his excellent varietal characteristics. Now this sort of reborn, although another 30-40 years ago, he was on the verge of extinction. This was partly due to the great popularity and demand for red wines than white, as well as due to the complexity of its cultivation. Arneis grape name translated means "little rascal" and it is well suited to this capricious variety. He likes light sandy soil and lots of sun, and as a result produces low yields and prone to powdery mildew. However, those winemakers who are not afraid of difficulties grow Arneis always rewarded for their work: the wine from it is incredibly fragrant, elegant and balanced.
Paitin - the oldest winery in Piedmont, founded back in 1796, when Benedetto Elia purchased the manor, a wine cellar and vineyards of the famous winemaker Luigi Pellissero. Son Benedetto - Giuseppe significantly expanded the area of family vineyards and acquired the underground cellar, created in the XV century. In 1893 it was released the first wine "Sori Paitin" Barbaresco, and since 1898 the company began to export wine of its own production on the foreign market.
Full activity resumed at the winery in 1965, Secondo Paschero Eliya, who built a new wine cellar, gradually transplanted vines and purchased new plots of vineyards. His sons Giovanni and Silvano - the current owners of the company - together with his father successfully continue the family business, cultivating 17 hectares of its own vineyards. In 1997, the brothers opened another direction - agritourism, which allows everybody to enjoy the beauty of the Langhe. Today Paitin is one of the leading manufacturers of first-class wines of Piedmont. Their red and white wines of Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Arneis, Barbera and Dolcetto has repeatedly been awarded the prestigious "Three glasses" from a reputable critic Gambero Rosso.
