Wine "Freestone" Chardonnay, 2009
The taste of the wine is full, has a high concentration, weight and intensity, bright, focused, seductive tones of honeysuckle, quince, orange and apple peel. The finish is long, with sharp, accurate, citrus and mineral notes.
The aroma of wine is filled with tones of fried brioche, apricot seeds, lemon oil, almond, chamomile petals and hints of honey.
The wine goes well with chicken in cream sauce, white meat, seafood and delicate fish dishes.
"Freestone" Chardonnay - monosortovoe wine created from the harvest from their own sites on the coast of Freestone Winery in Sonoma. This wine is a pure expression of the terroir of Sonoma Coast.
Slow growing season in 2009 proceeded in cool conditions, which further ensured the production of wine with perfect balance. The temperature in the month of August was normal, with cool nights and foggy days, helping the grapes to ripen and develop the flavor, color and tannins slowly and evenly. At the time of collection Chardonnet and has a high acid concentration. After fermentation, the wine is aged 15 months in French oak barrels (55% - new, 45% - 2-3 year olds) and was bottled April 11, 2011, then aged in the cellars of the winery about a year.
The famous Napa Valley winemaker Joe Phelps - founder of "Freestone Vinyards" - for many years sought appropriate land for planting two great grape varieties - Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In 1999, together with his son Bill and the management team of the winery "Joseph Phelps" has acquired a former dairy farm, occupies about 100 acres in Sonoma Freestone on the coast. Start of development of these lands were divided three sections - "Freestone", "Quarter Moon" and "Ferguson", each of which has its own characteristics. 80 acres were brought to Pinot Noir, 20 acres - a Chardonnay.
Maturing in the local cold climate grapes often gives very low yield because of the cool days of spring vegetation. Also not uncommon for the region are sudden changes in temperature within one day. But a small number of crops is compensated by high quality and concentrated flavor. By 2007, the new building was built winery. In the vineyards used for the removal of green harvesting immature grape clusters. Careful collection and sorting manually promote freshness and pure expression of fruit. Different methods of treatment of each of the vineyards and the different ways of vinification harvest from individual blocks are aimed at developing the capacity of each cuvée. Finally, to maintain the character of the wine Freestone is bottled without filtration.
