One of the first foreigners to rated capacity Colchagua wine was a California pioneer and patriarch Robert Mondavi, who visited the country for the first time in 1985. The first vines were planted in 1997 (Merlot, Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and a small amount of Sangiovese and Malbec) on stony soils and different sites.
