Interesting Facts

Anchor, Steam Beer - a unique beer, which appeared in the lineup Anchor Brewery in 1971. It has a deep amber color with a thick creamy froth, rich flavor and distinctive aroma. The process of making beer Steam combines a deep respect for the traditions of crafting brewing decades and the evolution that led to the unique approach: mixing pale and caramel malt, fermented with lager yeast at high temperatures typical of the production of ales in small fermentation in the open air and delicate carbonation natural method called "kräusening".

Steam - the word of the XIX century, the pseudonym of beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The name's origin is shrouded in mystery, but probably refers to the practice of the initial fermentation of beer on rooftops in San Francisco in a cool climate. Instead of ice beer after fermentation cooled naturally by the foggy night air, creating steam from the warm outdoor pots. So, Steam has become a synonym for any beer California or the West Coast, brewed in these conditions. Today the word "Steam" is a trademark of Anchor brewery and only applies to the manufacture of special process flagship Steam Beer Beer - sample classic American brewing tradition since 1896.

Producer's description

The roots of the brewery "Anchor" back to the early 1850s, the period of "gold rush" in California when brewing pioneer Gottlieb Brackley arrived in San Francisco from Germany. In 1871, he bought an old saloon with a pool table and pub near Russian Hill and turned it into a small brewery. Twenty-five years of the brewery bought a German brewer Ernst F. Baruch and his son Otto Shinkler and renamed it to "anchor" ("Anchor"). After a fire in 1906, Otto Shikler brewery opened a new location south of Market Street. Next to the brewery fell on hard times. It changed hands, the opening, then closing. One hundred years later, in 1971, he bought the brewery Fritz Dushanzi District, which has invested a lot of money, not just to save the brewery from bankruptcy, but also eager to revive the tradition of brewing beer crafting and creating. He found a new building for the brewery and started the production of five new varieties. In 2010, Dushanzi District sells a plant, and the new owners Anchor implement plans for the conservation of iconic brands, expansion of production and consolidate its position as a leader in crafting brewing.
